ABRSM’s mission is to inspire achievement in music. Together with its partners who form its Governing Body – the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland – the charity supports the teaching and learning of music throughout the world. Over 600,000 candidates seek ABRSM qualifications each year in 93 countries and they, their teachers and others purchase ABRSM’s publications and digital resources to support musical learning.
ABRSM encourages students to build the skills, knowledge and understanding that help them to unlock their musical potential, whatever their background and whatever part they wish music to play in their lives. Prompted by significant changes in the world of music learning and assessment, ABRSM is investing further in its customers, products and services through an ambitious programme of development. ABRSM employs approximately 170 people although the HR team provides advice on a total workforce of c. 1,300 including the volunteers, examiners and representatives they work with globally.
The role requires an experienced and suitably qualified Human Resources professional who will bring influence and credibility across a global organisation which is undergoing positive and wide-ranging change. This is a unique opportunity to provide inspirational HR team leadership, further develop the customer-focused HR service and lead the implementation of the new People Strategy. As a member of the Senior Management Team, the HR Director will contribute to the corporate strategy and decision making and as such have a considerable impact as ABRSM continues along its exciting pathway of progress and change.
With a career background in a customer centric service environment, you will thrive in a role where you can lead a team which adds value through delivering results in a collegiate, responsive and global organisation. Reporting to the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services and having regular contact with the Chief Executive, this is a business-critical role where your pro-active and energetic approach will be valued, as will your experience of developing and implementing internal engagement and internal communications strategies. The ability to balance both strategic and operational aspects when required will be essential, as will a track record of delivering results whilst also being sensitive to an organisation’s unique culture.
